Teachers: apply for STEM grants, MAKER van visits by Nov. 15th

Applications close for Synopsys Outreach Foundation's STEM Grants and RAFT MAKER VAN OPPORTUNITY on November 15th. The programs are for teachers in the Greater Bay Area to bring project-based STEM to their classrooms. They can also serve to get students excited about science fair! Grants up to $5,000 are available.

If you are unfamiliar with the RAFT Maker Van, RAFT can bring project-based science experiences to your school and offer up to 8 hours of programming. More information about what they can provide is available here: https://raft.net/ramp-it-up-event-with-rafts-maker-mobile/

Previous participants MUST submit their 2026 project application for SRC pre-approval no later than Nov 14, 2025

Reminder: All previous participants must file a continuation form (Form 7) and submit their application for SRC pre-approval by the pre-approval deadline as required for continuation projects. SRC, not the student(s), will determine whether or not the project is a continuation of previous work.

We're looking for more helping hands at the Synopsys Championship on March 11 & 12. Volunteers are needed to help set up on Day One - when students check in their projects and get ready for judging - and on Day Two, when we set up for Judging Day, help people find their way around, and finish by packing everything away for next year. Parents of students who are competing are welcome to volunteer on Check-In Day. Please sign up on the Volunteers web page!

Broadcom MASTERS announces 2021 winners

Congratulations to Praneel Anil Shah from John F. Kennedy Middle School! He is one of the top winners at Broadcom MASTERS 2021, taking the $2500 second place STEM Award in Technology with his project, Utilizing a Bioelectrochemical System with Phototrophic Bacteria to Generate Clean Water and Electricity. The Top 30 finalists competed virtually in a 4-day event that included individual and team challenges in various STEM disciplines. A virtual showcase of their projects will be available for several weeks beginning October 28.

2020 Synopsys Championship Winners Showcase

We are excited to share videos of some Championship projects in the 2020 Synopsys Championship Winners Showcase.  We couldn't hold an in-person Winners’ Circle in September, where students would have shared a few words about their projects and their experiences at CSEF and ISEF.  So we're celebrating our winners by showcasing their work online!

Questions about SPECIAL AWARDS should be directed to the Special Awards Desk on our CONTACT page (link at top right of homepage). Major Fair Awards Posted Teachers of Championship winners, and student Winners and two guests per winner are invited to attend the 2015 Synopsys Championship Awards Ceremonies at the Campbell Heritage Theatre!  We have a two-guest-per-student limit because the theater cannot let us exceed its seating capacity, and we want everyone who wins an award to be able to attend. See the time and place of the grades 6–8 ceremony and the grades 9–12 ceremony.

  Available Judge Feedback Forms for students will be sent to the teacher as soon as our volunteers can sort through all the forms.  Please be patient.   A listing of CSSF (State Science Fair) Eligible Students will be posted here March 31st. Eligible Qualified and Alternate students received letters of notification at the Awards Ceremony March 29th.

Use the Check Project Status button on the home page to be sure your application has been received by SCVSEFA. If you don't find it listed, contact fairmanager@science-fair.org and we'll watch for it in the mail. There's one more pickup before the last SRC meeting on Jan. 25.
