High School Research Teachers Conference Sept 30 – Oct 2, 2022

The Society for Science is bringing high school research teachers together to share best practices, troubleshoot challenges, & learn more about the Society for Science & the Regeneron Science Talent Search.

The next conference will take place September 30-October 2, 2022. Full-time U.S. teachers will be selected via lottery (lottery closes Aug 5th) to attend in person in Washington, DC, – one-third each of novice, intermediate, and veteran experience levels. Virtual portions of the conference will be open to anyone formally supporting high school student research.

ISEF, the International Science & Engineering Fair, returned this year with 1,750 finalists participating both in-person and virtually with the sponsorship of Regeneron. Finalists represented 49 states and 63 countries.  Congratulations to all the participants from the Synopsys Championship and to the award winners announced on May 12 (special awards) and May 13 (scientific category awards). Congratulations to our outstanding Santa Clara County students! 126 Synopsys Championship participants qualified to compete virtually at the California State Science & Engineering Fair on April 12th.  Winners were announced online and are posted on the CSEF web site.  SCVSEFA has a summary page of all 61 winning participants from the Synopsys Championship.

Special congratulations to Nicholas Wei who was awarded Project of the Year in the Senior Division and Samaira Mehta who was awarded Project of the Year in the Junior Division!

Science News in High Schools program; Regeneron and other sponsors are funding the participation of over 5,000 public high schools during the 2022-2023 school year. Spots are filling up fast, so fill out the interest form today.

SCVSEFA announced the 2022 Synopsys Championship winners on the web site on March 24, click here to see results, including the students who qualified for CSEF and Broadcom MASTERS nominees.

The California Life Sciences (CLS) 2022 Bay Area BioGENEius Challenge is now open for submission! The 2022 Challenge will take place at the California Life Sciences Event Center in South San Francisco facility on April 22, 2022. It is open to students Grades 9 – 12.

CSEF is already contacting the Championship students who have qualified for CSEF. The application instructions will ask for certain forms from your original application. Important: Do not submit your original forms 1B, 4, 5a or 6a to CSEFYou must submit copies with an official SRC/IRB signature(s). We are working to get signed copies scanned and uploaded to a Google Drive folder as soon as possible. Congratulations to Rishab Parthasarathy, a senior at The Harker School and one of 40 finalists, including seven from California, who competed in the 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search.  His project, A Novel Combination of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Pathway Analysis for Predicting Oncogenic Mutation Progression and Recommending Targeted Therapies, was developed from his award-winning project at the 2021 Synopsys Championship.
