WINNERS CIRCLE EVENT for 2018 fair students attending further fairs

The WINNERS CIRCLE EVENT for invited 2018 fair winners will be Thursday September 27th, 7-9 PM at SCCOE.

Congratulations to our outstanding Santa Clara County students! Winners of the 2018 Intel ISEF in Pittsburgh, PA were announced on May 17-18th. The top 10 Synopsys Championship projects competed with students from more than 75 countries.  Sixty percent of our projects were recognized with either a category award or special award(s).  Thank you to all who participated and facilitated the effort to help our top students present their research.

Congratulations to our outstanding Santa Clara County students! Winners of the 2018 California State Science Fair in Los Angeles, CA were announced on April 24th. Over 100 Synopsys Championship projects were eligible to compete.  Approximately fifty percent of our projects won category awards and an additional 4% received special awards.  Thank you to all who participated and facilitated the effort to help our students present their fine work.  Congratulations to Cathy Messenger from Los Gatos High School who won TEACHER OF THE YEAR at State Fair.

The list of students who are registered to go to the California Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles April 23-24 has been posted on the state fair website.  Five projects which were wait-listed Alternates have now been Accepted.  It is necessary that all outstanding documents be submitted ASAP to the state fair in order for the registered projects to be allowed to set up April 23rd.  Indications of the missing documents can be seen next to the student’s name on their website,

 

Forms for Financially Sponsored Students and chaperones and those travelling on SCVSEFA-rented buses   2018-STUDENT-Med-Release (sponsored students only)     2018-STUDENT-Behavior-Risk-form (sponsored students and all passengers on buses).

The names of students who may apply for the 2018 California Science and Engineering Fair (CSEF) were posted on their official CSEF Qualified Students webpage on Monday, March 19th.  The list contains names of both the Eligible students and Alternate students.  The listed students should go to the California State Science Fair  CSEF website and follow all registration instructions! Registration is online and must be completed by March 27th.

Students will be sent  an email today indicating if they have Eligible or Alternate status.

  • Eligible students (not Alternates) must send the $45 Registration Fee and Signature card to CSEF  as soon as possible after submitting their application online.
  • Alternate students must also register online and will be notified  by email from CSEF in early April if they can take the place of an eligible student who did not register.  Even though alternates must meet the same Submission Deadline as qualified projects, alternates should not pay the Application Fee after submitting their application. If accepted, alternates will then be instructed to pay the Application Fee and submit other ancillary materials (which must be received before they will be allowed to participate in the Fair).  Decisions on all alternates will be made no later than Tuesday, Apr 03, and will be communicated to the email address the student provides in their CSEF application.

For high school students going to CSSF
This year, CSSF is an affiliated fair and will be selecting and sending several projects to Intel ISEF.  If you were not selected as a Finalist at the Synopsys Championship you have another opportunity.

If you need copies of IRB/SRC signed paperwork (Form 4, 6A, 6B, and 1C (if done at an RRI)) for your project please contact src@science-fair.org.

The 2017 Synopsys Championship Awards Ceremony  is the afternoon of April 9 at the Heritage Theater in Campbell.  See  Winners List.  The Awards Ceremony is an ‘Invitation Only’ event.  Students will receive an email notice for when they are invited to attend. If the student’s email has changed since they applied to the 2017 fair, they should notify the fair manager at once.

Available Judge Feedback Forms for students will be sent to the teacher as soon as our volunteers can sort through all the forms.  Please be patient.

Unclaimed awards from the ceremony will be mailed or delivered to the teacher.

Broadcom MASTERS award winners have until June 14 to apply.

Notice Regarding Fair Attendance:

(1). Students must be present at the board to be judged.  If on a restroom break, students should leave a conspicuous note at their board with an estimated time of return.  For team projects, at least 50% of a team must be present to be judged.

(2). Students represent their school to the public viewing time 5-6PM.  Students are expected to stay until 6PM when judging is over and fair ends. If they must leave before 6, students have to be signed out by their parent or legal guardian. Boards removed before 6 PM are disqualified

Project Display Rules and Helpful Hints for Project Display

 

Teachers from middle school with more than 6 projects to check in on March 22nd for their students may register for Group Check-In for Middle School Projects.

Forms must be taped to the desk in front of the project display board March 22nd after Check-In.
At 6PM March 23rd when the fair closes, these forms belong to the students to use as they wish.
